This is a framed print of Christ of Saint John of the Cross, based on Salvador Dalí’s renowned 1951 painting. The artwork presents a powerful, dream-inspired vision of the crucifixion, with Christ suspended in a darkened sky above a tranquil body of water, complete with a boat and fishermen. Dalí intentionally left out traditional crucifixion symbols like nails, blood, and the crown of thorns, aiming instead to convey a sense of peace and transcendence.
The print is in good condition and has been printed directly onto a light wood, likely balsa. The frame is older and shows signs of wear, but the print itself could easily be reframed to suit your space.
It measures approximately 75cm high and 44cm wide, including the frame.
This beautifully framed lithograph print features the RMMV Capetown Castle, a passenger liner operated by the Union-Castle Line, which provided services between the UK and South Africa.
Built in 1938, the ship served both commercial and military roles, including use as a troopship during World War II.
The artwork is by Greig, a well-regarded maritime artist known for creating pieces for shipping companies, including Union-Castle Line. The frame is engraved with Union-Castle Line, suggesting it may have been an official promotional item, possibly displayed on board or in a company office.
Both the print and frame are in good vintage condition.
